TRAUMA AND PTSD
Have you experienced a traumatic event that continues to impact your life? At New Horizons, we offer compassionate and effective DBT-informed therapy to help you heal from trauma, manage PTSD symptoms, and reclaim your sense of safety and well-being.
What is Trauma and PTSD?
Trauma is an emotional response to a distressing or life-threatening event, such as an accident, natural disaster, violence, or abuse. When these experiences lead to ongoing distress and impairment, it may be diagnosed as Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Common symptoms of PTSD include:
-
Re-experiencing the trauma: Intrusive memories, flashbacks, nightmares, and intense distress when reminded of the trauma.
-
Avoidance: Avoiding thoughts, feelings, places, people, or activities that remind you of the trauma.
-
Negative thoughts and feelings: Persistent fear, anger, guilt, shame, difficulty experiencing positive emotions, and negative thoughts about yourself or the world.
-
Hyperarousal: Being easily startled, feeling on edge, difficulty sleeping, and experiencing irritability or outbursts.
